LTU: “An action plan in place before summer is our aim”

Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Luleå University of Technology: “Next generation AI experts, and next generation AI users”

“As Vice-Chancellor at a university, I welcome the AI strategy. Luleå University of Technology, just like many other organizations, is entering an important phase of change, and having a document that provides a common ground for us is valuable,” says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor, and Professor, Luleå University of Technology.

“6-12 months ago, we started to develop action plans for our teachers and researchers, helping them find new ways of working with AI as a tool. The next step is putting an action plan for the whole organization in place, including education, research, innovation, and support structures. Our aim is a first version ready before summer.”

“It is very important for us, and for the other Swedish institutions of higher education, to review both the existing educational offerings we have, but just as importantly, future educational offerings. We need to educate the next generation of AI experts, but also the next generation of AI users. We need AI experts with an understanding of organizations and society, but we also need people with an education in humanities or social sciences to have an understanding of AI. Both aspects are equally important.”
